Editorial Reviews

“A top-rate thriller told in stripped-down language that races to a climax.” Washington Post
“I couldn’t stop at one page. I had to reread the whole book…I don’t think I’ll be the only one who still finds that old hook as sharp as ever.” Mystery Scene
“Narrator Dan John Miller dives into the role of Fletch with gusto. Miller’s tone reflects the ace reporter’s approach to his undercover disguise as a beach bum while working to ferret out drug sources for a big story.” AudioFile

Fletch Is A Blast

I vaguely remember watching this movie maybe 10 years ago - so I really went into it with only the assumption that Fletch was Chevy Chase in my head. I couldn't really remember the plot line and I knew that there were a few movies made.  I did not know that this was written originally in 1974 and also didn't know that it also started a long series of books starring the same sleuth.

Most mystery books that I read revolve around someone who has already been murdered - but Fletch was totally different.  Fletch was hired to kill a man he hardly knew. So he decides to do some digging to find out just who this man really was.  What happens after is a scene of events that will show us just who the real Alan Stanwyk (spelled the wrong way :) ) is and what lengths Fletch will go to, to get a story.

I also like that he wasn't your typical murder mystery kind of guy.  Not only is he completely crazy, utilizing things you wouldn't think would work to get information out of people.  But he's also not a detective.  He's an investigative journalist that always seems to be about 10 minutes from getting fired.

As I said, I didn't really remember the movie - but after reading this I definitely want to go back and check it out.  I thought that McDonald's writing style was perfect and he was able to write a funny but still serious book.  I enjoyed every second of it and I'm really glad I picked this one up. I requested a free copy of this book - it has not affected my review in any way.
